1. (a) 103rd
As per the 2018 Global Hunger Index (GHI), published on October 10, 2018, the level of hunger and undernutrition worldwide fell to 20.9, down from 29.2 in the year 2000. As per the index, India was ranked 103rd out of 119 qualifying countries.
2. (b) Central African Republic
One country suffering from an extremely alarming level of hunger is the Central African Republic (CAR), which has the highest 2018 GHI score of 53.7 and has been suffering from instability, sectarian violence, and civil war since 2012.
3. (c) Ganga
In a first, the Central Government notified the minimum environmental flows for River Ganga that has to be maintained at various locations on the river. The upper stretches of the Ganga from its origins in the glaciers and until Haridwar would have to maintain 20 percent of the monthly average flow of the preceding 10-days between November and March 2018.
4. (d) Olly
Turtle ‘Olly’ has been declared as the official mascot for the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup. Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be held at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16, 2018. ‘Olly’ represents the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles.
5. (a) Pravin Srivastava
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Pravin Srivastava as Chief Statistician of India, and Secretary of the Statistics Ministry. Pravin Srivastava is the 1983-batch Indian Statistical Service officer.
6. (b) Sachin Chaturvedi
Sachin Chaturvedi was appointed to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. Revathy Iyer, a former Indian Audit and Accounts Services officer, was also nominated to the RBI board. Both are appointed for a period of four years with effect from September 19, 2018.

The World Bank launched its first Human Capital Index (HCI) in Bali, Indonesia on October 11, 2018, as part of the World Development Report 2019. The index ranks 157 countries based on their education and health outcomes and the impact they are having on productivity. While Singapore tops the rankings, African countries occupying the bottom spots.

The World Bank launched its first Human Capital Index (HCI) in Bali, Indonesia on October 11, 2018, ranking poor African countries -Chad and South Sudan at the two lowest spots. The World Bank predicts that in the lowest country ranked on the list, Chad, productivity and earnings potential would be only about 29 percent of what their potential would be under ideal conditions.
9. (b) Malaysia
The Malaysian Cabinet has decided to abolish the death penalty for all crimes and halt all pending executions. Capital punishment is currently mandatory in Malaysia for a wide range of crimes including murder, drug trafficking, treason, kidnapping, possession of firearms and acts of terror.
10. (c) Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan parliament has passed a law to pay compensation to the victims of the 30-year-long separatist war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE. The war had claimed at least 100,000 lives. The Reparations Bill was passed on October 10 with a 59-43 vote and it will benefit survivors and victims of the several armed uprisings in the country.
11. (b) Meghalaya
Meghalaya is planning to launch Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries. The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 51 crore for the scheme and it will be launched on October 26. With the launch of this scheme the state would be self-sufficient in fish production.
12. (a) Leather
The Central Government has approved a special package for employment generation in leather and footwear sector. The centre has approved four projects worth over Rs 105 crore to promote leather industry in Tamil Nadu.
