1. (a) Arif Alvi
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate, Arif Alvi on September 4, 2018 won the Pakistan Presidential Election 2018, defeating his two rival candidates Fazal-ur-Rehman and Aitzaz Ahsan. Alvi will replace incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain as the 13th President of Pakistan with a term of five years. Hussain’s five-year term will end on September 8, 2018.

The International Day of Charity was observed globally on September 5, 2018 with an aim to recognise the role of charity in alleviating human ‎suffering within and among nations, as well as to recognise the efforts of charitable organisations ‎and individuals such as Mother Teresa.

3. (c) Justice Ranjan Gogoi
Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra on September 4, 2018 recommended the name of Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India. This recommendation will now be processed and forwarded to the President who will issue the warrant of appointment. CJI Misra retires on October 2, 2018.

The tsunami mock drill exercise ‘IOWave18’ began from September 4, 2018 in Indian Ocean. The exercise is being organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. The Delhi Government has increased the prize money for the players from the state who won medals for the nation at the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. The state government has raised the prize money for gold medalists to 1 crore from previous Rs 20 lakh and the silver medalists will now be entitled to an amount of Rs 75 lakh instead of earlier Rs 14 lakh.

US tech giant Google announced on September 3, 2018 that it is employing a new artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to combat online spreading of contents involving child sexual abuse. The technology reportedly uses deep neural networks for image processing to help discover and detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online.

Australian cricket is drawing up a cultural blueprint in which players will pledge to uphold certain standards in a move away from their win-at-all-costs mentality.
